If Any of This Sounds Familiar

Depression looks different in different people. These are the patterns we hear most often.

  • Mornings take everything

Getting out of bed takes more than it should, more days than not.

  • Enjoyment went flat

Things you used to look forward to feel like chores.

  • Shorter fuse than usual

You’re irritable and snapping at people, then feeling guilty about it.

  • Performing on the outside

You keep functioning at work while feeling empty behind the scenes.

  • The thought that worries you

You catch yourself thinking, what’s the point.

  • Talk to someone today

Ridgeline Mental Health provides depression therapy in Denver, in person and online across Colorado. Licensed therapists, coordinated psychiatric support and direct insurance billing help make getting started more manageable.

Depression Is More Than Sadness

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, an estimated 21 million U.S. adults experienced at least one major depressive episode in 2021. It can appear as visible sadness, but it often shows up instead as irritability, withdrawal or checked-out numbness — one reason it goes unrecognized for years, particularly in men.

Signs worth taking seriously:

  • Mood

Low mood or emptiness most of the day, more days than not, and a loss of interest in things that used to matter.

  • Sleep and appetite

Sleeping too much or barely sleeping, along with appetite or weight changes.

  • Focus and decisions

Trouble concentrating or making decisions, and feeling worthless or carrying guilt that does not match the facts.

  • Pace others notice

Moving slower, or feeling agitated in a way the people around you pick up on.

You don’t need to check every box. If life has felt heavier for more than a couple of weeks, that’s reason enough to talk to someone.

Kinds of Depression We Treat

Major depression

The classic form: episodes that pull the floor out from under daily life.

Persistent depressive disorder

A lower-grade heaviness that hangs on for years and starts to feel like personality. It isn’t.

Seasonal patterns

Colorado sells sunshine, but shorter winter days still drag plenty of people down. If your mood drops predictably every winter, there’s a name for it and a plan for it.

After loss or change

Divorce, a move, a job loss, a new baby. When adjusting turns into sinking, therapy helps you find footing.

Depression with anxiety

These conditions commonly occur together and can feed each other. See anxiety therapy.

Depression after trauma

If something that happened to you is part of the picture, we treat both together. See trauma and PTSD therapy.

How Depression Therapy Helps

Depression tells you nothing will help. That’s a symptom, not a fact. These approaches have decades of evidence behind them.

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)

    Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)

Depression bends your thinking toward the negative and then presents it as truth. CBT helps you catch those distortions and build a more accurate, more workable way of seeing yourself and your situation.

  • Behavioral activation

    Behavioral activation

When energy is gone, waiting to feel motivated doesn’t work. Behavioral activation flips the order: small, planned actions come first and mood follows. It starts smaller than you’d think.

  • Interpersonal therapy

    Interpersonal therapy

Depression strains relationships, and strained relationships deepen depression. This approach focuses on the connections and role changes underneath the low mood.

  • Mindfulness-based approaches

    Mindfulness-based approaches

Useful for breaking rumination loops and reducing relapse once you’re feeling better. Your therapist may weave these in alongside other work.

What Getting Better Looks Like

Progress with depression is quiet at first. Food tastes like something again. You return a text the day you get it. A friend says you seem more like yourself, and you realize they’re right.

Momentum builds on itself once it starts, which is exactly why starting is both the hard part and the important one.

If reading this page feels like effort, let us do the next part. Call or text (877) 355-3999 and we’ll handle the matching, the insurance and the scheduling.

What to Expect

  • Your first session

Your story, your symptoms and what you want back. From there you and your therapist build a plan and meet regularly, usually weekly to start. Progress tends to be gradual, and your therapist helps you track what is changing.

  • When medication makes sense

For some people with moderate or severe depression, combining therapy and medication may be more effective than either alone. Our prescribers and therapists coordinate directly instead of working in silos. If you’d rather not go that route, that’s respected too.

Depression Therapy FAQs

How do I know if it's depression or just a rough patch?

Duration and reach. A rough patch lifts as circumstances shift. Depression hangs on for weeks, spreads into sleep, appetite, focus and relationships, and doesn’t much care when good things happen. If you’re asking the question, it’s worth a conversation.

Do I have to take medication?

No. Therapy alone is effective for many people, especially mild to moderate depression. If medication could meaningfully help, we’ll tell you honestly and you decide.

How long until I feel better?

Some people notice improvement within the first few weeks, while others need more time. Your therapist tracks progress with you so you’re never guessing whether it’s working.

Can I do depression therapy online?

Yes. Online therapy is an effective option for many people with depression, and on low-energy weeks it removes a major barrier: getting there. Anyone in Colorado can meet with us by video.

Get Started

Depression convinces people to wait. Don’t give it more time than it’s already taken. Call or text us, and a real person will answer and help match you with the right therapist. The first call is free, private and commits you to nothing.
